Pilot Skills

Terminology and Operations
  • Identify key terms that will aid in the students’ understanding age-appropriate hardware and software
  • Learn the equipment: mouse, monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc.
  • Print documents
  • Familiarize the student with the keyboard
  • Access internet and other programs via desktop icons
  • Open/Save/Close files

Creativity
  • Create drawings & illustrations using basic graphics programs
  • Use visual mapping to illustrate basic story lines, life cycles, etc.

Communication & Collaboration
  • Work in small groups to complete projects and share ideas

Research & Evaluation
  • Use search engines to find information about topics covered in classs
  • Discuss a reliable source vs. a poor source

Problem Solving
  • Learn basic troubleshooting techniques, such as restarting the computer and checking computer hardware for proper operation

 Digital Citizenship
  • Exhibit responsible computer & internet use        
  • Respect lab space and equipment (laptop cart, SmartBoards, cameras, etc.)
