10th Age Skills

Terminology and Operations
  • Identify key terms that will aid in the students’ understanding of age-appropriate software and hardware
  • Use correct typing techniques (taught via software tutorials)
  • Type 40-50 words per minute
  • Know what programs to use for different tasks
  • Understand how to use multiple programs for a single task and how to make them work together
  • Use network drives, local drives, and flash drives for file storage
  • Understand benefits of different file storage options
  • Learn keyboard shortcuts

Creativity
  • Format text, colors, styles, paragraphs, margins, etc. in Microsoft Word via letters, stories, paragraphs, etc.
  • Format bullets and numbering
  • Cut, Copy, and Paste (show multiple ways to complete these tasks)
  • Set page orientation and margins
  • Insert headers and footers
  • Create documents that are personally designed for specific purposes
  • Use advanced programs for graphic design, photo editing, video editing, and multi-media production
  • Incorporate photos and videos into specific projects (using MovieMaker, Photo Story, etc.)
  • Create collections of photos and videos and create network library for all to use
  • Create slideshows with text, images, transitions, and sound
  • Create spreadsheets (organize information via pie charts, bar graphs, etc. to represent data collected)

Communication & Collaboration
  • Work in small groups to complete projects and share ideas
  • Deliver oral and visual presentations using the SmartBoard
  • Use video conferencing to chat with other classes, family members, etc.
  • Understand the way technology influences how we communicate with each other
  • Act as an example to the entire Lower School regarding proper use of technology as a mode of communication and research

Research & Evaluation
  • Use search engines to find information about topics covered in class
  • Identify useful web pages, links, etc.
  • Develop advanced search techniques and strategies (image searches, news searches, map searches, etc.)
  • Understand the parts of a URL
  • Learn the purpose and use for wikis and blogs
  • Contribute to the LS Tech Blog (guest authors)


Problem Solving
  • Expand on basic troubleshooting techniques to include specific issues relating to software and hardware
  • Learn troubleshooting techniques for specific software programs
  • Discuss common techniques that can be used for a variety of “tough situations”
  • Involve students in helping classmates troubleshoot problems

Digital Citizenship
  • Exhibit responsible computer & internet use
  • General Cyber Safety
  • Cyber Bullying Awareness
  • Respect lab space and equipment (laptop cart, SmartBoards, cameras, etc.)
